Introduction

From the depths of the oceans, to the heights of the skies. From the heat of the sun, to the cold dark places of the earth. Elemental Magic flows through all creation and governs the power within us all. The magic of Earth, Air, Fire and Water is channelled by spell casters and creatures. We live in an age that seems to take all natural things for granted, including the very air that we breathe. A long time ago however, that was not the case.

Empedocles (494-434 BC) was a Greek philosopher, who is remembered by history for originating the theory of the four Classical Elements. Prior to this, other philosophers debated which substance was the primordial element from which everything was made. However it was Empedocles, who was the first to propose four "roots": Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Coincidentally, it was thought to have been Plato (427-347 BC) who coined the actual term 'Element'

Today modern science no longer supports these Classical Elements as the material basis of the physical world. Instead, it has categorized atoms into over 100 chemical elements such as Oxygen, Carbon and Gold. For this book however, we shall leave this modern world and transport your mind to a time and place that harnesses the Classical Elements. The seasons and their gentle balance with each other, the myths, legends, and creatures associated throughout time with them.
